We have been back into our normal routine the past couple of weeks.  The girls are back into the swing of things at daycare.  Aaron and I are back to work, well I never got out of the swing at work (educator vs. optometrist argument), but things have been busy around the Hufnagel house.

The Little General

Bella is still being the boss here at home and even daycare.  We often call her the “little general” because she…well she is like a little general.  Bella is in charge.  I’m not sure if everyone is quite aware of this yet, but you have been warned.  Bella is in charge.  Just the other week Wendy informed me that she is handing out unsolicited potty advice to one of the older kids.  Yep, Bella–handing out advice on all things potty training.  Apparently she informed Dylan, a little boy who is a year older than the girls, that only babies use pullups (I am sure she had her hands on her hips as she did this and a finger pointed).  He has been in the process of potty training for quite some time now and he is still resistant to the idea.

The Excitement of Norah

When Dylan pointed out to Bella that she wears pullups she told him that she doesn’t wear pullups; she wears panties (granted she does still wear them at naps and bedtime, but that was not the point in her mind and I am sure the hand was on the hip with the finger pointed now waving as she made her point).  I do not think Dylan took her advice too graciously, but have yet to hear if there has been in impact on his potty habits since the Bella intervention.  That is our Bella–the little general and master of her world no matter how infinitely small or large or the perception of such size, but it is her world.

100% Bella & Norah

Norah has been talking to “Robots” at random times.  Last week when I was taking them to daycare she kept mumbling and talking to herself.  When I listened closely I heard her saying, “Help me, Robots….beeeeeep” and later, “the Robots are at home, they need to help me…beeeeeeep.”  Not really sure what was going through her mind, but she threw in lots of random “beeeeeeps” during her communique with the “Robots” and after a few minutes Bella started talking to the robots as well.  At least it made for an entertaining drive.

Norah's Dinosaur

They also both have a fascination with things being naked recently.  Bella has been in the habit of stripping her baby dolls even right after I have redressed them.  She will then exclaim “they naked!” at the top of her lungs.  They both strip down for bath at night and want to run around yelling, “I’m naked!  Look Mommy!  Look Daddy!  I naked!”  You would think that is all that Aaron and I do is run around and yell that we are naked–no idea were this fascination has come from.

Shyness

Naked, naked, naked.  Their understanding of that term and how they relate it has been funny and amazing.  We take the sheets off the bed–the bed is naked.  Remove candy from the wrapper–the candy is naked.  Open mail–the mail is naked.  Mommy or daddy takes their contacts out–their eyes are naked.  Take socks off–feet naked.  It is really funny at times to listen to them and watch their understanding take on things or be shaped by their perception of what naked is.  You laugh and that is all you can do at times because it is well, I have never thought about a DVD movie being naked (right after I think “what has Aaron been letting you girls watch?”) but I guess technically if we take the movie from the case, the DVD is naked…..right?  Or maybe Aaron has been letting them watch….  Anyway the point is the girls have a great understanding of naked.  A+ on that assignment.  Time to move from naked and why? to the next phase.

Aaron posted this on Facebook while he had the girls during break, but it worthy of sharing here as I close this naked-filled post:

I was in the living room and heard Bella up to something in the kitchen at the table.  Here is the conversation:

Me:  Bella.  What are you doing?

Bella:  I want get naked.

Me:  What!?!?!

Bella:  The Color.  I want get naked.

So I get up (okay maybe jump up) from the couch, walk (yeah it was a sprint) to where I can see Bella.  So there I am expecting to see the worse.  There she is, sitting at the table with her coloring books.  She is peeling the wrapping from the crayon.  Naked crayons.
